چکیده

The next generation of linear colliders requires peak power sourcesof-over 200 MW per meter at frequencies above 10 GHz at pulse widths of less than 100 nsec. Several power sources are under active development, including a conventional klystron with RF pulse compression, a relativistic klystron (RK) and a crossed-field amplifier. Power from one of these has energized a 0.5 meter two-section High Gradient Accelerator (HGA) and accelerated a beam at over 80 MeV per meter. Results of tests with these experimental devices are presented here.

Scaling Linear Colliders to 5 TeV and Above*

Detailed designs exist at present for linear colliders in the 0.5–1.0 TeV center-ofmass energy range. For linear colliders driven by discrete rf sources (klystrons), the rf operating frequencies range from 1.3 GHz to 14 GHz, and the unloaded accelerating gradients from 21 MV/m to 100 MV/m. Except for the collider design at 1.3 GHz (TESLA) which uses superconducting accelerating structures, the ...

Advanced Rf Power Sources for Linacs*

In order to maintain a reasonable over-all length at high center-of-mass energy, the main linac of an electronpositron linear collider must operate at a high accelerating gradient. For copper (non-superconducting) accelerator structures, this implies a high peak power per unit length and a high peak power per RF source, assuming a limited number of discrete sources are used. To provide this pow...

Rf Pulse Compression and Alternative Rf Sources for Linear Colliders*

Future linear colliders will require a very high peak power per meter of accelerating structure at a relatively high frequency-greater than 10 GHz-but at a relatively short pulse length-less than 100 ns. One technique for generating the required peak power is to use a more or less conventional microwave power source, which produces power at a pulse length typically on the order of 1 ps, togethe...

Alternative Rf Pulse Compression System Configurations for Linear Colliders∗

∗ Work supported by the U.S. Department of Energy under contract DE-AC03-76SF00515. † Also with the Communications and Electronics Department, Cairo University, Giza, Egypt. Abstract Over the years, various concepts have been developed for the temporal compression of high power pulsed rf. Such techniques are integral to the efficient design of linear colliders whose power sources can produce pu...

Prospects for Multi-tev Two-beam Linear Colliders*

Recent work at CERN and SLAC has opened the possibility of the development of concrete designs for electron positron linear colliders that have a center of mass energy substantially above 1 TeV [1,2]. These designs are based on high gradient, normal conducting acceleration with the power provided by an auxiliary beam that is efficiently accelerated in a fully loaded, low frequency linac. This t...
